Effective: 6 September 2026
This notice is for Under Glass at https://underglass.uk (the same site may also appear on a Vercel address). Shane Fullwood is responsible for this site.
We run a small terrarium knowledge library. We do not run a shop, a comment board, an advertising network, or a mailing list. This page describes what we actually do — not a supermarket privacy policy with the shop bits left in.
What we collect
Email you send us
If you write to hello@underglass.uk (or another address we publish), we receive whatever you put in the message: your email address, and any names, photos or links you include. We use that to reply, to correct a page, or to fix a credit. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running the library and, where you ask us to do something, taking steps at your request.
Admin sign-in
The private editing desk uses a session cookie after a shared password. That cookie is strictly necessary to keep the editor signed in. It is not an advertising cookie. Ordinary visitors never see that login.
Hosting logs
The site is hosted on Vercel. Like most hosts, they may keep ordinary technical logs for a short time (for example IP address, pages requested, browser type, time of visit) to keep the site up, to stop abuse, and to understand whether a page failed. We do not sell that information.
What we do not collect
- We do not ask you to create a public account.
- We do not run article comments, so we do not keep commenter names, emails or Gravatar hashes.
- We do not take card payments or delivery addresses.
- We do not run third-party advertising cookies (no Mediavine, no Facebook ads on this site).
- We do not knowingly collect special-category data (health, ethnicity, and so on).
Cookies
For a normal visit we do not set a tracking cookie. The only first-party cookie we set on purpose is the admin session cookie, and only if someone signs in to edit the site.
Embedded content (for example a video hosted elsewhere, or an image served from another company’s storage) can behave as if you visited that other site. Those services have their own notices. We prefer to host clips ourselves as MP4 files where we can.
Your browser can block cookies. Blocking the admin cookie simply means the editor will not stay signed in.
Who we share data with
We share what we must to run the site:
- Vercel — hosting and delivery of the pages.
- Email — if you write to us, your message passes through ordinary email providers.
- Law — if we are required to disclose something to a regulator or court.
We do not sell your details. We do not pass your inbox to a marketing list.
Some of those processors are outside the UK. Where that happens we rely on the host’s published safeguards (for example standard contractual clauses) as well as our own need to keep a small site online.
How long we keep it
Emails: as long as we need them to finish the conversation or the correction, then we delete or archive them in the ordinary way. We do not keep a marketing database.
Admin session: until you sign out, or the session expires.
Host logs: according to the host’s retention, typically short-lived and used for security and reliability.
Your rights (UK GDPR)
You can ask us for a copy of personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to our using it, and (where it applies) to take it elsewhere. If we ever relied on consent, you could withdraw it.
Write to hello@underglass.uk. Say what you want us to do. We may need to check it is you.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in the UK. We would rather put it right ourselves first.
Children
The library is written for adults making jars at home. We do not aim it at children and we do not knowingly collect a child’s data.
Photos and location
If you send us an image, strip location data if you do not want it travelling with the file. Published pictures on the site should carry a credit. See also the Disclaimer.
Changes
If this notice changes in a real way, we will update this page and the date at the top.
